Etsy charges five main fees: a $0.20 listing fee per item (renewed every 4 months or when sold), a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, payment processing of 3% + $0.25 per order in the US, an optional 12–15% offsite ads fee when a buyer clicks an Etsy-run ad, and currency conversion fees if you sell in a different currency.
Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee applies to the total order amount — item price + shipping you charge + gift wrap. On a $25 item with $5 shipping, the transaction fee is 6.5% of $30 = $1.95.
If Etsy promotes your listing on Google, Facebook, or Instagram and a buyer clicks that ad and orders within 30 days, Etsy charges 12% of the order (or 15% if your shop made over $10,000 in the past 12 months). Shops under $10K can opt out; high-volume shops cannot.
On a $25 item with $5 shipping (no offsite ads), Etsy takes about $3.50: $0.20 listing + $1.95 transaction fee + $1.15 payment processing. You keep around $26.50 of the $30 the buyer paid — before your cost of goods.
You can't avoid listing, transaction, or payment fees, but you can: opt out of offsite ads if you're eligible, build shipping cost into your item price strategically, avoid frequent listing edits that re-trigger fees, and price items high enough that the flat $0.45 ($0.20 listing + $0.25 payment) is a smaller share of revenue.
